The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI) in partnership with GIZ Malawi held a graduation ceremony on 28 the May 2021 for 71 MSMEs who successfully completed the MSME Loop course in Dowa district. MSME Loop is a tool that combines business training and coaching, developed by GIZ for existing MSMEs that are growth oriented. SMEDI was the implementing partner for Dowa district that started in November 2019.
The target beneficiaries for the project included farmers, commodity traders, input suppliers and processors working within the selected agricultural value chains of soya, sunflower, cassava, groundnuts, rice, chili/paprika and macadamia.
The selected MSMEs were taken through Phase 1: Business Analysis training and coaching where they defined their improvement targets and set milestones followed by Phase 2: The Business Plan Development Coaching where they outlined their business growth path. The entrepreneurs were also given an opportunity to present their business development plans to different business development service providers who were present during the graduation.
The primary objective of the MSME Loop is to guide and support entrepreneurs in up scaling their businesses strategically, enhance their business management competencies and come up with a business development plan.
