The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI) made a call for expression of interest to participate in Food and personal Hygiene and food labelling based on MS 21 and MS 19 to various MSMEs whose products require certification by the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS). The call for expression went out to all three regions of the country. This call for expression of interest is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between SMEDI and MBS and aims at building capacity of MSMEs towards product certification.
It is in respect of the above that SMEDI, in collaboration with the Malawi Bureau of Standards, undertook to train the third cohort of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that were selected on Food and Personal Hygiene, Packaging and Labelling of Prepacked Foods to enhance their capacity.
The aim of the training was to provide an overview on guidelines for food and personal hygiene based on MS 21:2002 – Food and food processing units – Code of hygienic conditions and to bring awareness to food handlers to ensure that those who come into contact with food are not likely to contaminate it. The two–day training is taking place at Simama Hotel in Lilongwe on 6th September 2021 and 7th September 2021.
