WHO WE ARE
BACKGROUND
On 1st February 2013, the Malawi Government merged operations of Small Enterprise Development Organization (SEDOM), Development of Malawian Enterprises Trust (DEMAT) and Medium Enterprise Development Institute (MEDI) to form a new organization called SMEDI. SMEDI stands for Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute. It is a parastatal organization under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and was registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act (Cap 5:3) of the laws of Malawi.
VISION
A leader in the promotion of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in Malawi
MISSION
To promote the development and growth of sustainable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Malawi, partnering with the Government of Malawi and other role players to create an enabling environment, to facilitate access to finance, information and markets for MSMEs and to provide relevant, needsbased business development services.
MANDATE
Development of a viable Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) sector that has potential to create employment opportunities, create wealth, and have comprehensive social IMPACT F for economic growth.
